Click Download Margin above, open the disk image, and drag Margin into your Applications folder. Launch it and you're writing. No account, no licence key, no sign-up. Margin is local-first — your entries are encrypted and stored on your Mac, never on a server. (Margin is in active early development; tell us what you think at hello@marginjournal.app.)
Margin is free, so install it on as many of your own Macs as you like. Your journal entries are not synced between Macs — each install is its own independent, encrypted vault.
Margin the app is free. There's no monthly or annual subscription, and no cloud-sync fee — there's no cloud sync at all. The app and its eight built-in themes cost nothing, today and always. The only thing you can ever pay for is extra artist-made themes — and only if you want them.
Margin's themes are commissioned from independent artists to provide a curated experience. These are real artists doing real work, compensated fairly for it. You browse and buy themes from the Theme Store inside Margin; theme checkout is handled by Paddle, the merchant of record, who handles sales tax, VAT, and GST in every jurisdiction. New themes drop regularly — some free, some paid — and the ones you buy are yours to keep.
Margin is free, so there's nothing to refund there. If a theme you bought doesn't work for you within 14 days, email hello@marginjournal.app and we'll refund you. Full policy: Refund Policy.
